Good to note. I have been using Substack for about 9 months now and while, overall, I'm very happy with it, it does on occasion make glitches. For example, there was a brief period several months ago when Substack would not allow me to make edits on my comments; twice it scrambled up my scheduled drafts; and although I turned off the notifications of new subscribers, about once a week I still get a notification in my email.
So, is this mismatch on your subscriber counts an innocent glitch? I can only and sincerely hope so.
So far, as far as I can tell, I am receiving posts on all the substacks I subscribe to.
Fingers crossed. But I have seen so many platforms and publications and institutions and associations and individuals that I relied on fail, spectacularly, in the past 3 years, that I'm more than a bit wary, and I can imagine that you, and those reading this, may be as well.
I have a similar issue with what my home page subscriber count is (over 2K) and what my dashboard says it is (like 1650). I thought this might be because I have two newsletters and the smaller one does not have 100% overlap on signups with the larger one. It also could be that substack counts the total all time subscriber signups even though some people do unsubscribe, in a two steps forward one step back way, though the list is generally growing...
You are not alone with the question, but the Substack software tends to be buggy. Also, judging by e-mail addresses, many of my "subscribers" are bots, news and other agencies, and other authors. That should be present in your stats, too, but it doesn't matter. My best guess is that the script that generates the pages rounds up the number of subscribers to 3k, and the plus is there by default.
Perhaps! Yes, that seems plausible. Wild that they would say 3k+, as if 2,502 is the same as, say 3,999. That's probably how they did the WA vaccine %.
Edit: I'm genuinely laughing. In 'newmath' 51% of the population vaccinated is the same as 98%. PACK IT UP BOYS. WE ROUNDING NOW.
That would have saved lives! Ha! I'm sure "they" (thugs in charge) would have avoided anything so decent! (Assuming your thugs in WA are as all in on control & depopulation as our US/DC sellouts.)
I have 137 subscribers. My main welcome page reads "hundreds". Clearly that algorithm is lying to potential newbies to drive more subs. Kinda like how Trivago spams popups, "only 2 rooms left!" But when you call the hotel direct they're empty. Newmath indeed.
It's funny (haha) how having one's life destroyed by the power structure always makes one assume the worst. At this point I'm just waiting to be hauled off to prison.
Perhaps all the people now unsubscribing who think I am an idiot will test the rounding idea.
A simple misunderstanding. It’s hard to not get paranoid eh? It doesn’t take much to get thrown in jail these days. French-Swiss commentator Alain Bonnet, also known as Alain Soral, was sentenced to 60 days in prison after he called Catherine Macherel, a journalist for the Swiss newspapers a “fat lesbian.” Can you believe we live in these times? Fuck those cry babies. And fuck that fat lesbian Catherine Macherel.
To be fair, the Frogs will chuck a chap in a cell for far less than Soral's been accused of.
I was briefly chucked in a cell in 2008 for referring to Sarko the Runt-Goblin as "nabot méchant, nez cochu" (nasty dwarf with a hooked nose). The potential charge was "antisemitisme et négationnisme" - which I thought was funny because the rest of the sentence made it clear that I was aware that he was Catholic (at least nominally).
Then my passport "disappeared" - I simply forgot to collect it from the gendarmerie as I left, since I wasn't from a "Papiere, bitte" kind of country (which I took delight in pointing out to anyone who would listen).
Next day my car was stopped; the sanglier asked for my passport; I didn't have it; and two hours later I was in handcuffs on my way to Lyon. This was when the immigration authorities were given an increase in their quota.
I spent 2 weeks in what I always refer to as a "concentration camp", where I may or may not have been force to fight a bear.
It was actually the Centre de Rétention Administrative in Lyon - an 'immigrant detention centre'. Names are just words, so I use different words.
The food was excellent (DUCK CONFIT 2 days a week!!!) and plentiful, but the barbed wire made it problematic to do chinups - every gymbro will tell you that chinups are a great upper-body exercise, and absolutely indispensable as preparation for anybody at risk of being forced to fight a bear.
So in reality, the bear - if there was a bear - was lucky I was never selected to fight it (although I might have been)... because I would have done a back-flip, broken its neck, and disarmed the nuke with 1 second to spare.
I made friends with some really interesting people - including Marc, a guy from Côte d'Ivoire with a PhD in Economics from Sorbonne, whose command of the history of French colonialism was excellent; and a Bangladeshi lady called Momtaj Alo whose plight deserves a book.
I was the only white Francophone among the détenues - so the others thought I was an undercover sanglier. SUCH RACISTS.
Actually I do give off quite a 'cop' vibe, which is why nobody will sell me weed. They should be forced to fight a bear.
Awesome story! I never had to fight a bear, only kangaroos which are pussies compared to a bear. I wonder if all these enforcement "people" realise how utterly detestable they are, doing the bidding of their overlords. I don't consider them worthy of air.
Thanks for sharing your numbers. What jumps out to me is that your "paid subscriber" percentage is only 1.24 percent. I'm in the middle of a audacious subscription drive, the purpose of which is to demonstrate that at least ONE of Substack's "freedom" writers can boost this figure to at least 10 percent or even 18 percent (which is my goal). Eighteen percent would allow me to make a living from my writing as it would translate to roughly $50,000 gross income.
Nobody has ever reached these figures, which is why I want to prove or "demonstrate" that this is, in fact, possible.
I've found similar numbers from about 10 of the most popular "Covid" writers. I believe that even the most-successful of these writers only have about 3 to 4 percent paid subscribers.
One conclusion is that about 96 to 97 percent of Substack readers have chosen to not support any Substack writers. Please, don't get me wrong, this is their choice and these readers have reasons for not becoming "paid subscribers' (probably fear of inflation being the top one).
Substack has about 17,000 "creators" who receive paid subscriptions. My guess would be only a tiny percentage of these 17,000 have even 200 paid subscribers.
Substack has become the most important place where free speech, genuine debate and contrarian and important journalism are possible.
Still, it's clear to me that 99+ percent of these creators do not make enough money from their work to make a living.
Given this, I wonder how many Substack authors will continue their work. To me, it seems like the world needs as many truth-seeking journalists as possible to battle the captured MSM journalists.
Ultimately, the readers who subsidize and support a few more of their favorite writers will/would allow Substack to be a much greater force for good than it already is.
P.S. More than 2500 total subscribers is an impressive number, although given how important your work is I wish you had many more readers and at least 5 to 10 percent paid subscribers.
Thank you for the comment, and dropping by Bill. These numbers are fascinating. I have done the maths on one Substack author and at a minimum this person makes 900k USD a year.
Thank you as well for the praise for my work - coming from you that means a lot. Everyone who finds me is via 'word of mouth' so to speak - even alt. media in Australia and overseas will not publish my work. I have tried and they ghost me with no feedback. You would think they would be interested in Australia's gain-of-function research or vaccine contracts and troves of FOIs but they are not.
Unfortunately there is a carefully curated tier of people who are 'allowed' to speak and publish in the 'freedom space' particularly in Australia. It puts into sharp relief that information is not important, it is how and by whom it is delivered and if they have a big social media platform.
Relatedly, there may be a citizens' jury coming up in Australia about the covid response. My work on covid democide could lay the foundation for that inquiry (or at least substantially enhance it). I hold no illusions that I will be invited to participate even if I were to make a submission.
This is not about me by the way, but Australians breaking out of the intellectual cul-de-sac of 'jabs bad' and really understanding what is happening, but people are so scared to follow 'jabs bad' further intellectually. I'm not perfect by any means, but this is democide and we need to start calling it what it is.
In any case, I stand ready to assist. If God wills that I should participate, it will happen. If not, perhaps it is a Hundred Flowers campaign and He is saving me from the jackboots.
If anyone wants to participate in my "demonstration project" (and prove that one "freedom" writer can reach more sustainable subscriber numbers, please read this article:
I have boosted my paid subscibers by 33 in 48 hours, which has given me and my family a 31 percent pay raise! Thanks for the show of support! But I still have a long way to go to achieve a goal I think might make the entire media world stand up and take notice.
Hard to say what they're doing, but it definitely looks like they're interfering with the count. Sasha Latypova said recently they were unsubscribing some of her followers. Perhaps they were just messing with the numbers & made it look like there were less.
If Substack were to become as popular as Twitter I would expect the same algorithms and policies to limit those of us who don't like vaccines and pushing forward idiots who do what they're told to do. I was banned from Twitter once for screen snapping the likes on a tweet of mine go up, come down, go up, come down again and then posting those screen snaps up on my Twitter. These days they just ban me for having the temerity to tweet there even though they've shadow banned me into one interaction per tweet by their reckoning. I guess unofficially there's enough eyes on them and unregistered likes to concern them because their reasons for banning me are always bogus.
Saying that I just checked my Substack & the likes are the same in both places.
Thank you PP this is so chilling. As I was saying to Bill (above) I am entirely reliant on others sharing my articles and I am amazed that I have 2,500 subscribers just through 'word of mouth.' It's a miracle really.
You are one of the Warriors! Guess what? I tracked down famous Dr Joseph Varon in Houston (for a sick friend). I could not find him on the internet, but i called a nice receptionist at a former place of employment, and she had found his current practice for other people who were asking.
I guess this is why 'they' are trying to keep people from talking, in person or on the phone... getting around the censorship protocols one phone call at a time :-)
Option 4 in the poll: 'newmath' - something to enjoy while we eat ze bugs.
Newmath - rounding 2,502 to 3k+, emphasis on the '+'. This means that 2,502 is the same as, say 3,999.
Application: Australia's vaccine uptake, where 51% may be rounded to 100+%.
LoL! I already voted! But I wouldn't change my vote.
I shall vote for newmath. It is the clowniest of options.
I changed the poll so you may vote again
sounds like the federal budget - we are in a surplus because we changed 'our accounting methods with the future fund"

I just checked on my site: I am close to 2,000 subscribers, and if I don't log in, I get 1,000+, so my theory of the bug is wrong.
I saw another 'forward facing metric' of mine from a different browser that said I had 2,000+ subscribers and my subs have increased from yesterday.
Newmath
I wonder the same thing.
Also, I wonder if the number of paid subscribers is being suppressed - how would we know?
We do not.
Also, thank you Peter for sharing my articles. I really appreciate it.
Your are most welcome. Your quality is apparent and needs/deserves to be shared.!
Rounding.

That's exactly what I thought when my very intelligent readers explained the newmath rounding to me.
It has been a fascinating exercise for so many reasons:
-Given what I/we have endured I just assumed it was more tyranny
-Inflating my reader numbers to generate 'excitement' about my substack (hotelmath-covidcasemath) would therefore never occur to me.
This leads me to conclude that I am demoralised and traumatised but also still in the mindset of 'inflating numbers to generate excitement is wrong!'
I need to think more like a WEF person.
Please, don't ever "think more like a WEF person"! Most of them gave up "thinking" a long time ago. 😥 Keep keepin' on! God wins!
That's very true. I suppose I meant I should just be more savvy and project less.
Most likely explanation. Yet, all things considering, a worthwhile conversation.
I have 137 subscribers. My main welcome page reads "hundreds". Clearly that algorithm is lying to potential newbies to drive more subs. Kinda like how Trivago spams popups, "only 2 rooms left!" But when you call the hotel direct they're empty. Newmath indeed.
Genuinely laughing.

Correct! Gold star. Substack rounds the number on the home page and you must go into your stats to see the actual number.
It's funny (haha) how having one's life destroyed by the power structure always makes one assume the worst. At this point I'm just waiting to be hauled off to prison.

I just had a notification on Substack that the incorrect paid subscriber counts were an internal error....
I got that too. It did not seem to affect my small but dedicated legion of fans.

wow interesting. Thanks.
I think substtack is just trying to gain new authors by claiming higher subscription counts in the public profile.
I think it probably was a rounding error - Substack need to make sure they only round down for thousands maybe.
If Substack were to become as popular as Twitter I would expect the same algorithms and policies to limit those of us who don't like vaccines and pushing forward idiots who do what they're told to do. Did they change the notifications by email.
I noticed in the last week or so I’m hardly getting any substacks in my email 🤷♀️
Oh no - that's a worry. I have not received any notifications about Substack changing their email policies.
